Mechanical Project Manager

The Mechanical Project Manager position is located in Kitchener, Ontario and reports directly to the Mechanical Manager.

A Little About You:

You are eager to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate assigned mechanical projects from the estimate stage through to the project completion. You can quickly assess, evaluate, and report on project status in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. You have a continuous improvement mind set always looking for a better way. You are an effective communicator and collaborate well with others. You can clearly set expectations and hold yourself and others accountable to meeting those commitments. You are always willing to roll-up your sleeves to dig in and find the solution to whatever problem the day has presented to you. Your primary focus is safety, planning, monitoring progress, scheduling, quality, costs management, estimating, reporting, and managing project changes under the direction of senior leadership.

The Role and Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide leadership for assigned project(s) regarding cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contract performance
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards as per company policy and contract specifications
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Roberts Onsite team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant information
  • Plan, prepare, monitor, and manage construction schedule and milestones
  • Manage the support team (i.e. coordination, field operations etc.) and targeted work performance
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable standards – i.e. health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures, and contract requirements
  • Monitor, forecast and report on progress, labour productivity, work outcomes, budget, and costs
  • Review and interpret changes issued to the contract for cost, schedule, labour and workforce implications
  • Prepare and submit project estimates; price/ negotiate all changes in scope as required
  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants
  • Negotiate contracts in coordination with the purchasing department.
  • Maintain oversight of work in progress, assessing for areas of risk and deficiencies, instructing the project team to address issues that arise
  • Work with internal purchasing staff to ensure materials and equipment are available to tradespersons
  • Ensure monthly cost forecasting and checklists are completed accurately and on time
  • Ensure accurate productivity reports are completed weekly.

Skill Requirements:

  • Understanding of construction scheduling, planning, and execution principles
  • Business operations processes
  • Organization and time management
  • Outstanding communications, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate user of:
    • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project)
    • Accubid estimating software and Jonas Management System for Construction an asset, but will train
    • AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam an asset

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Project Management, Construction Management or relevant field, or Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) in Plumbing, Steamfitting, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic or similar.
  • 3-5 years of Project Management experience in the construction industry, specifically relating to plumbing, piping systems, HVAC or similar.
