Roberts Onsite recently completed a full rebuild of a freshwater clarification system, leveraging our expertise as a comprehensive design-build partner. As a trusted multi-trade  partner involving our Electrical, Mechanical, Millwrighting and Rigging  departments, we retrofitted an existing water treatment clarifier with a new Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) system.

The DAF structural, sheet metal, agitation, and pump skid components were fabricated by a 3rd party and delivered to us on site. This project highlights our commitment to collaboration, as we efficiently worked with other companies to deliver the end results.

Before the DAF was delivered:

  • Our VDC team utilized a virtual model from the fabricator to complete a full layout of all structural components and anchoring locations. This strategic pre-planning allowed our trades to drill and epoxy all anchors prior to a single piece being installed.
  • The VDC team also developed 3D fabrication drawings for our Fabrication shop, who built the piping for the DAF offsite. With sizes ranging from 30”, 10”, 6”, 4”,  down to 2”, this piping was then delivered to the site and installed by our Mechanical team for the various Raw water, Treated water, Waste, and compressed Air systems.

On-site phase:

  • To ensure safer and more efficient construction, the main bridge structural components were assembled on the ground outside the DAF by our Millwrighting and Rigging team. This approach helped remove a large portion of the jobs' elevated work and the risks associated with it.
  • Once assembled, the Mechanical and Electrical teams completed the vast majority of their rough-in of piping and conduit before the entire 60,000-lb structure was lifted into place by our Millwrighting and Rigging team.
  • Our Mechanical team installed two new 40Hp air compressors, which supply compressed air to the system.
  • The electrical installation was substantial, including a 300amp, 600volt feed to the Saturation Skid control panel, and feeds out to the DAF for 8 flocculator motors and the main drive scraper motor, as well as the feeds to the new compressors.
  • The Electrical team installed all the conduit and wiring to connect level sensors, pressure sensors, and flow meters, creating a fully automatic system.
  • Our Automation group also joined forces to design and build a control panel/ control system for the ventilation of the 2 new air compressors. That was then installed by our electrical team.

When a project demands a seamless, all-trades effort, Roberts Onsite proves to be a real business partner. We operate as a unified team of multi-trade professionals and are always proactive in working with other companies to commission the system and deliver exceptional results.
