The University of Guelph is a comprehensive public research university in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1964 after the amalgamation of Ontario Agricultural College, the Macdonald Institute, and the Ontario Veterinary College, and has since grown to an institution of more than 23,000 students and academic staff.
Roberts Onsite was contracted by the University to supply and install an underground tunnel system from McGillivray St. /College Ave. to Central Animal Science. This tunnel system would carry high pressure steam, condensate, water supply and return, compressed air as well as all electrical services such as high & medium voltage feeders, main communication fibre/copper backbones, tunnel convenience receptacles and lighting to the various adjoining buildings. We prefabricated all mechanical racking and piping prior to the tunnel installation. Once the precast tunnel sections were set in place and sealed by our civil partner, Drexler Construction, our mechanical group followed behind with pipe rack installation and then utility pipe installation. Our electrical group then installed all cable tray, feeder cabling and finally all convenience receptacles and lighting. All tie-ins were scheduled during off hours. All piping was welded black pipe and after installation was tested, inspected by TSSA and insulated as per site specifications. All electrical cabling was tested and inspected by ESA. This project was completed safely, on schedule and to the customer’s satisfaction. We continue to support this customer’s day to day activity.
